Brown Angel Music Publishing is excited to release a promotional CD featuring a collection of Blues icon Roy Brown’s best-known hits and hidden gems, carefully selected by his daughter.
A visionary artist who helped give rock & roll its name with his chart-topping 1948 hit, “Good Rockin’ Tonight,” Roy Brown is a blues icon who helped bring rock music to life years before Elvis was crowned the king of rock & roll. The distinct crying shout Brown used to deliver his heart-rending, hard-partying, and always soulful music drove his songs to the top of the Billboard charts. Brown’s innovative melding of the blues with the gospel songs he grew up singing in church made his songs like “Long About Midnight” (1948) and “Hard Luck Blues” (1950) number one Billboard R&B chart-toppers that pre-dated the wild popularity rock & roll would experience in the mid-fifties.
Brown’s musical legacy has inspired music pioneers Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Ricky Nelson, among others, to make their own covers of his chart-topper, “Good Rockin’ Tonight.” Although his songs have been chart-toppers when covered by other influential musicians, his original recordings capture the essence of his musical genius that endures to this day.
